The First Day is Always the Hardest

My hubby travels Monday to Friday for his job. We've been together for almost twelve years (only 6 of those married), around year two he made the decision to go into the telecom industry. This included a lot of travel. I've had 10 years to get use to it, but now we have Sage to contend with. When D- is traveling regularly it is not a big deal, but D- has been on vacation the past 3 weeks. That is a lifetime to a 3 year old. Monday night was the first night post vacation, and little man did not want to go to sleep. We read several chapters in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mine-O-Saur a few times, sang some songs, had tickle wars, and he even asked me to take pictures. That's when I knew I was fighting an up hill battle. The whole time he was asking where's Daddy. It was breaking my heart. So I pulled in a photo of daddy and me. So we played name the family members, and finally I had to draw the line. He refused to let go of his Daddy's picture. When it was quiet I went in to check on him this is what I found. My heart melted......

the long road

Don't worry about the little man. By Tuesday morning everything was right as rain. The first night is always the hardest.

Awww...That is priceless. It is a hard job to parent 24/7 and cure an aching heart. You did a great job! I hope Tuesday WAS easier.

Such a sweet shot - I feel your pain. My husband travels Monday through Thursday. We hope that by the time we have a little one that he'll be at home more regularly.

Thanks ladies. It is tough sometimes, but I always try to make sure that he understand that daddy travels because he loves us.

Ashley that is the schedule that he has. The one great thing about the traveling is that if it is within a reasonable driving range we go with him. Sage has seen more in his 3 years than I had seen before I was 21.

What a divinely sweet picture. As I read your post I felt like I was reading about our life. My hubby too is in telecom - always has been - except now he is on the selling end instead of the designing end and he is gone, gone, gone. The first day home and the first day gone have always been the toughest. And vacations - brutal when they end. Good luck and keep taking those sweet shots.

That is too sweet! I can't imagine that a single person wouldn't melt when seeing that. Their reunion will be priceless when your hubs returns!

Gosh, and I thought it sucked that my husband works 3-11 p.m. - I should really just be grateful! Very sweet photo!

Thanks everyone. It's one of those sacrifices we make for the family. We are pretty use to it, but there are always moments.....

Plus he is such a wild child...I love taking sleeping photos....the quiet after daily chaos.
